CoolSculpting

We encourage patients to consider natural and healthy approaches first before thinking about CoolSculpting.

CoolSculpting® (also known as fat freezing or cryolipolysis) is a non-surgical procedure that uses controlled cooling to act on fat cells in specific areas.

This treatment focuses on targeted fat areas. The response can differ between patients, and outcomes vary.

Before deciding on any treatment, it is important to have realistic expectations. During your consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss what the procedure may involve, the recovery process, and the possible outcomes.

How Does CoolSculpting Work?

At Chelsea Cosmetics, we use Zeltiq CoolSculpting technology for cryolipolysis procedures. The length of each treatment depends on the number of areas being addressed and can vary from around half an hour to an hour.

A typical session may involve the following steps:

  1. The treatment areas are identified and prepared with a protective gel pad.
  2. The applicator is positioned over the targeted area.
  3. Controlled cooling is applied to act on fat cells beneath the skin.
  4. After the session, the applicator is removed, and the area may be massaged to assist with circulation.

Following treatment, the body gradually processes the affected fat cells over time. The timing and extent of changes can differ between patients, and your individual response will be discussed during consultation.

Areas of the Body that Can Be Treated

CoolSculpting or fat-freezing treatments can target fat cells in areas all over the body, such as the stomach, abdomen, hips, back, and chin. It is also used to address visible excess fat that may be located:

  • Underneath the buttocks
  • In the upper arm
  • Beneath the jawline
  • In the flanks
  • Along the bra line
  • In the lower and upper back
  • Underneath the chin
  • In the inner and outer sections of the thigh

Cryolipolysis procedures can also be used to treat the following:

  • Knees
  • Other body areas (e.g., mons pubis)
  • If contouring irregularities are present following a liposuction procedure, technicians can use fat-freezing treatments.

Using the large Zeltiq applicator, we can treat two areas simultaneously. This reduces the overall treatment time by about 50% in some Coosculpting procedures.

After CoolSculpting, changes in the treated areas may develop gradually over time. In the first few weeks, it is common to notice temporary effects such as swelling, redness, or tenderness. These effects usually settle as the area heals.

The extent and timing of results can vary between patients. Some individuals may notice changes over the following months, while for others it may take longer. Maintaining a stable weight with a balanced lifestyle is important, as weight fluctuations can influence the overall outcome.

Suitable Candidates for CoolSculpting

Suitable candidates for the treatment should have the following:

  • Adequate amounts of fat to place within the CoolSculpting applicator
  • Areas of fat resistant to diet and exercise
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) that is below 25
  • Good overall health
  • Realistic expectations

Who are not Suitable Candidates?

Suitable candidates for the treatment should have the following:

  • Adequate amounts of fat to place within the CoolSculpting applicator.
  • Areas of fat resistant to diet and exercise
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) that is below 25
  • Good overall health
  • Realistic expectations

Who are not Suitable Candidates?

Patients with pacemakers, poor circulation, or defibrillators are not suitable candidates for fat-freezing procedures. Breastfeeding or pregnant women must wait until they have given birth and finished breastfeeding to have a CoolSculpting procedure. An individual who has any skin condition (e.g., dermatitis or eczema) or wound in the treatment area must wait for the issue to resolve before having the treatment in that particular area.

NOTE: It's important to note that CoolSculpting is not a method for weight loss.
